With a concept that seeks to expand the vocabulary of traditional crafts, this collaboration is part of Carwan\u2019s project &#8221;Contemporary Perspectives in Middle Eastern Craft&#8221;,\u00a0exploring new avenues in design. On Monday, January <st1:metricconverter w:st=\"on\" ProductID=\"28, a\">28, a<\/st1:metricconverter> one week workshop started, during which the design team of Fabrica under the art direction of its creative director Sam Baron, Carwan and 10 students from ALBA had a look to many typical Lebanese craftsmanship techniques and products. The aim is to find the direction that needs to be taken to design a good collection that will reflect the designers&#8217; trip through <st1:place w:st=\"on\"><st1:country-region w:st=\"on\">Lebanon<\/st1:country-region><\/st1:place>&#8216;s handicraft tradition.<?xml:namespace prefix = \"o\" ns = \"urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office\" \/><o:p><\/o:p><\/FONT><\/FONT><\/FONT><\/SPAN><BR><BR><SPAN style=\"mso-ansi-language: EN-US\" lang=\"EN-US\"><FONT color=\"#000000\"><FONT size=\"3\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\">The Conference held last Thursday launched officially the project.<o:p><\/o:p><\/FONT><\/FONT><\/FONT><\/SPAN><BR><BR><FONT color=\"#000000\"><FONT size=\"3\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\"><STRONG><SPAN style=\"mso-ansi-language: EN-US\" lang=\"EN-US\">ABOUT FABRICA:<\/SPAN><\/STRONG><SPAN style=\"mso-ansi-language: EN-US\" lang=\"EN-US\"> <BR><o:p><\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/FONT><\/FONT><\/FONT><\/P><P style=\"TEXT-ALIGN: justify; MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><SPAN style=\"mso-ansi-language: EN-US\" lang=\"EN-US\"><FONT size=\"3\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\"><FONT color=\"#000000\">Fabrica is Benetton\u2019s communication research centre. Set up in 1994, it is based in <st1:place w:st=\"on\"><st1:City w:st=\"on\">Treviso<\/st1:City>, <st1:country-region w:st=\"on\">Italy<\/st1:country-region><\/st1:place> in a complex restored and enlarged by Tadao Ando. Fabrica is not a school, advertising agency or university. It is an applied creativity laboratory, a talent incubator, in which young, modern artists come from all over the world to develop innovative projects and explore new directions in communication, from design, music and film to photography, publishing and the Internet. These artist-experimenters are accompanied along their research path by leading figures in art and communication, blurring the boundaries of culture and language and transgressing the traditional borders between diverse range<\/FONT><SPAN style=\"COLOR: navy\">s<\/SPAN><FONT color=\"#000000\"> of communication mediums. <o:p><\/o:p><\/FONT><\/FONT><\/FONT><\/SPAN><BR><BR><FONT size=\"3\"><FONT color=\"#000000\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\"><STRONG><SPAN style=\"mso-ansi-language: EN-US\" lang=\"EN-US\">ABOUT CARWAN:<\/SPAN><\/STRONG><SPAN style=\"mso-ansi-language: EN-US\" lang=\"EN-US\"> <BR><o:p><\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/FONT><\/FONT><\/FONT><\/P><br \/>\n<P style=\"TEXT-ALIGN: justify; MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><SPAN style=\"mso-ansi-language: EN\" lang=\"EN\"><FONT color=\"#000000\" size=\"3\" face=\"Times New Roman\">Founded by the architects Pascale Wakim and Nicolas Bellavance-Lecompte in 2010, Carwan began as the first pop-up gallery in the <st1:place w:st=\"on\">Middle East<\/st1:place>. Established in <st1:City w:st=\"on\">Beirut<\/st1:City>, the gallery exhibits limited-edition pieces in art and design events throughout the world, with a focus on internationalizing design in the <st1:place w:st=\"on\">Middle East<\/st1:place>.
