Italy’s position on Jerusalem issue remains anchored in the European and international consensus that the UN has contributed to establish.
Israeli and Palestinians need to elaborate a two-state capital solution through negotiations, within the framework of the peace process aiming at the two state formula and considering the legitimate expectations of both.
Till then, Italy will keep on standing by the relevant UN resolutions and will maintain in Tel Aviv its embassy to Israel.
We are concerned for the repercussions on the ground of the new US approach’s announcement. We appeal to the sense of responsibility of all in Palestine and in the region to prevent incidents and acts of violence that will benefit no one.
Italy, together with the EU’s partners, and in contact with regional and international actors, will consider the whole situation and possible European initiatives to relaunch the peace process to achieve the two-state solution, the only one that remains realistic.
