Minister Di Maio phone conversation with the Lebanese Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants, Nassif Hitti

The Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Luigi Di Maio, held today a phone conversation with the Lebanese Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants, Nassif Hitti.

Besides COVID-19 Emergency, Regional issues and bilateral economic cooperation, Minister Di Maio confirmed Italy’s ongoing support to Lebanese institutions.

In such context, Minister Di Maio expressed appreciation to the recently adopted economic rescue plan by the Lebanese Government headed by PM Diab, including an IMF assistance request, noting that it marks an important step towards a serious and not deferrable reform process, in response to the legitimate aspirations of the Lebanese citizens.

Moreover, Minister Di Maio reaffirmed Italy’s commitment to the stability and security of Lebanon through the qualified participation to UNIFIL and the support provided to the Lebanese Armed Forces and Security Forces and the related training activities.
