The Chief of the Defence Staff paid a visit to Beirut, where he met with personnel deployed within the Military Technical Committee for Lebanon (MTC4L), the Italian Bilateral Military Mission in Lebanon (MIBIL), and the UNIFIL Sector West Command in Shamaa, accompanied by Ambassador Marcelli.
During the visit, Gen. Portolano met with the President of the Republic, Joseph Aoun, the Minister of Defence, Gen. Michel Menassa, and the Commander of the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF), Gen. Rodolph Haikal. The meetings aimed to foster dialogue among the parties and to reaffirm the commitment of the Italian Armed Forces to fulfilling their obligations at both international and bilateral levels.
The continuity of Italy’s contribution in support of the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) was also confirmed, with a view to promoting Lebanon’s stability and achieving the objectives set out in United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701.
