The Italian Cultural Institute will open the exhibition “The Mediterranean. Cradle of Arts” at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Lebanese University, Campus de Hadath, on Thursday,October 19th at 11:00 am. The exhibition – a joint initiative launched by the Italian Cultural Institute and the Lebanese University, paving the way for the forthcoming Year of the Mediterranean 2018 promoted by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation – is a collective exhibition of paintings and artworks by Lebanese students from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the UL and by Italian students of the Academy of Fine Arts of Bologna.
The event will also launch the XVIIth Week of the Italian Language in the World, on the theme “Italian at the Cinema. The Italian in the Cinema”, chosen by the Ministry.
In this context, the Italian Cultural Institute has organized various events – in collaboration with the many Lebanese institutions with which it usually works – such as the concerts by the Italian Duo Porroni (guitar)-Barbano (flute), “Unforgettable soundtracks of Italian cinema “, which will take place on October 20th at the LAU-Beirut Campus and on October21st at the AZM Center in Tripoli. These two events will be followed by a concert of a quartet composed by Hratch Issahakian (flute), Armen Ketchek (piano), Wissam Abdelnour (viola), Albert Moisi (bassoon), organized on October 23rd in collaboration with the Swiss Embassy. The concert, “From Pietro Morlacchi to Franck Martin, a tribute to Swiss composers”, is given in homage to Pietro Morlacchi, a composer from the Italian-speaking Canton Ticino.
Other events will take place such as:
– The show “VIVA L’ITALIA” at the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik, with Italian film screenings and numerous activities carried out by students and former students of the University;
– “Tonight at the cinema” at the Notre Dame de Louaizé University, with the screening of an Italian film, in collaboration with the cultural association EduLibano;
– An Italian Language Day on Monday, October 30th at the Lebanese University-Language and Translation Center, New Rawda, with various activities organized by the Italian Lector Caterina Carlini, in particular a conference on the theme Educational potential of cinema for teaching Italian to foreigners;
– An Italian Language Day in Lebanese Public Schools, on Tuesday, October 31st in the Amphitheater of the Faculty of Sciences at the Lebanese University-Fanar, with various activities organized by the students of the Italian courses within the L2S Project (co-financed by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation).
– Among these activities, there will be a theatrical event to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the birth of Pirandello, organized by the Lector appointed by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the Lebanese University, Dr Caterina Carlini, in collaboration with the Lebanese Research and Pedagogical Development Center.
The theme of cinema was already discussed during a training seminar – preliminary to the Week of the Italian Language – held at Antonine University on October 14th by Prof. Maurizio Maugeri of the Ca ‘Foscari University of Venice, who illustrated how to build a didactic path through Italian films whenteaching the Italian language to foreigners.
