The Italian Ambassador Massimo Marotti launched on Sunday the World Week of Italian Cuisine. At the event the Minister of Tourism Avedis Guidenian was present together with the press and businessmen. The World Week of Italian Cuisine aims at promoting and protecting Italian original food products and brands, to introduce the general public to regional products, especially from the regions affected by earthquakes and touristic itineraries related to gastronomy. The World Week of Italian Cuisine is a worldwide event held under the patronage of the Italian Embassies. This year a network of selected Italian restaurants in Lebanon will be participating to the Week. Restaurants are selected based on their respect of the Italian culinary tradition and the use of Italian ingredients. Wine shops are also involved with the promotion of the concept of Aperitivo Italiano with Italian wine tastings. The Italian art of ice cream makers will also be promoted during this week. Two conferences organized by the Italian Cultural Institute will be held in Lebanese universities presenting the link between art and food and illustrating Italian academic courses of Pollenzo University dedicated to food. The event
was the occasion to present the Italian candidacy of the Art of Neapolitan pizza-chef in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
