State property agency: Call for applications to renovate and manage properties of great historic and architectural value

The State Property Agency invites applications from foreign investors interested in renovating and managing historic properties

For many years the State Property Agency (Agenzia del Demanio) has renovated properties belonging to the state and other public bodies to make them usable, with the aim of contributing to the social and economic development of the local areas.

Two new projects have been launched to bolster the initiative, in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Economy and Finance.

The first, Fari, Torri ed Edifici Costieri (“Lighthouses, Towers and Coastal Buildings”), focuses on sustainable tourism and the development of marine and coastal areas through public-private partnerships. A call for applications to convert the properties into hotels, B&Bs and cultural centres was recently launched, with a deadline of 27 November 2018.

The second project, Cammini e Percorsi (“Walks and Itineraries”), aims to restore and promote buildings located on historic and religious routes, cycling and walking routes, and nature trails. Candidates will be selected to renovate and manage the properties to provide improved accommodation and facilities for walkers, cyclists and others using the area. The call for applications is due to be published at the end of September 2018.

Under both projects, the properties would be conceded or leased for between 6 and 50 years to individuals or organisations who may be resident in Italy or abroad. The applicants who are selected will be granted access to specific funds for the necessary renovation work.
