Extension of validity of the documents (passports, identity cards, driving licences, permits of stay, visas) issued by Italian Authorities

By virtue of the Decree of 17 March 2020, the Italian Government decided that, except for expatriation and border crossing, the validity of passports, identity cards and driving licenses issued by the Italian Authorities and expiring from 31st January 2020 is automatically extended until 31st August 2020.

The Italian Government has extended the validity of all permits of stay, issued to foreigners in Italy and expiring between 31st January and 15th April 2020, until 15th June 2020. As per foreign nationals having entered Italy with a visa or in visa exemption regime, their stay in Italy beyond the allowed validity, if due to force majeure, does not require any further formality and does not prejudge the position of the applicant. The obligation for foreigners to leave the country as soon as the current impediments are overcome remains unchanged.
