Italian Government Scholarships for the Academic Year 2025–2026 – Call for Applications Now Open

The Embassy of Italy in Beirut is pleased to inform that the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) has published the annual Call for Applications for scholarships offered to foreign students residing abroad and to Italian citizens living abroad (IRE) for the academic year 2025–2026.

This initiative is part of Italy’s longstanding commitment to fostering academic and cultural cooperation worldwide and aims to support the internationalization of its higher education system by welcoming talented students from all over the world to study and conduct research in Italy.

Who can apply?

Eligible applicants include:

  • Lebanese nationals studying outside of Italy;
  • Italian citizens living in Lebanon (IRE);
  • Candidates must possess the necessary academic qualifications for enrolling in the Italian university or institution of their choice;
  • Specific age limits apply depending on the chosen program (for example, applicants for Master’s degrees must not be older than 28 at the time of application);
  • Language proficiency is required for most programs: a B2 level in Italian or English (depending on the language of instruction) is typically necessary, certified through recognized tests or academic documentation.

What is covered?

Scholarships are available for the following types of academic programs:

  • Master’s Degree programs (Laurea Magistrale) – 9-month grants, renewable;
  • PhD programs – 9-month grants, renewable;
  • Research projects under academic supervision (Progetti in co-tutela) – 9-month grants, for research at universities or recognized research centers;
  • AFAM programs (Higher Education in Art, Music and Dance) – 9-month grants, renewable.
  • Italian Language and Culture Courses – 3 month grants.

Each scholarship includes:

  • A monthly allowance totaling up to €9,000 per academic year, disbursed in three installments;
  • Health insurance coverage for the duration of the grant;
  • Possible exemption from university tuition fees, subject to the policies of individual institutions.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted exclusively online through the official portal Study in Italy by May 16, 2025 at 2:00 PM (Italian time). Late applications will not be considered.

Candidates are strongly encouraged to read the full Call for Applications and consult the guidelines and FAQs available on the Study in Italy portal. It is essential to prepare all required documents, including passport/ID scans and language certificates, before submitting the application.
