On January 16th, the Institut des Finances launched the International Certification Program in Strategic Public Procurement. A training and capacity building project on the management of public procurement financed by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and realized in coordination with the University of Rome Tor Vergata.
The course consists of five training modules, entrusted to experts and professionals in the field from the two institutions or selected by the University of Tor Vergata. It is intended for Lebanese officials from the public sector (national and local) and from the control bodies responsible for tenders and contracts. The lessons will be crowned with a study visit to Rome.
The correct use of public resources, a matter of great importance in every economic system, acquires truly a strategic value in Lebanon, where the Parliament approved in 2021 a new law on public procurement in line with international standards, which must now be fully implemented.
From this perspective, Ambassador Bombardiere stressed in her speech that “contributing to the dissemination of a public procurement culture represents an extremely important objective, to the extent that procurement processes that are not very transparent and subject to political pressure, corruption and squandering, undermine Lebanon’s prospects for sustainable growth and drive away international investors and donors.”
Course registration is open until February 15th.
