The Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Massimo D’Alema, on a visit to Lebanon (16 November 2007)

This mission takes place in the framework of the efforts by the international community, in particular by Italy, France and Spain, aimed at  encouraging the finalisation of an agreement on the new President of the Republic based on the broadest possible consensus.

Italy is also committed in Lebanon by virtue of the role it has assumed in favor of stabilizing the country under the Unifil mission, whose Command and largest contingent are Italian. During his visit, Minister D’Alema will be meeting with Speaker Berri, Prime Minister Siniora, Cardinal Sfeir and other important politicians.
