Electoral services

VOTING ABROAD

The Consular Office is responsible for organizing electoral procedures for eligible voters residing within this consular jurisdiction, in accordance with Law No. 459/2001 governing voting abroad.

 

PARLIAMENTARY ELECTIONS

  • Where do I vote?

Italian citizens registered with A.I.R.E. (Registry of Italians Residing Abroad) are presumed by law to vote abroad.

  • How do I vote?

By postal ballot only.

  • Can I vote in Italy?

Yes, but only by submitting a specific request, known as the “option”, within the deadlines and according to the procedures established by Law No. 459/2001.

  • Who sends the voting documents?

The competent Consular Office for the voter’s place of residence sends the electoral package containing all the materials necessary to cast the vote.

 

ABROGATIVE AND CONFIRMATORY REFERENDA

  • Where do I vote?

Italian citizens registered with A.I.R.E. are presumed by law to vote abroad.

EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT ELECTIONS

  • Where do I vote?

Italian legislation regulating the election of Italy’s Members of the European Parliament does not provide for voting abroad outside the European Union. Therefore, Italian citizens registered with A.I.R.E. and residing in non-EU countries may vote only by returning to Italy.

  • How do I vote?

At the polling station established by the Municipality in whose electoral register the voter is enrolled. Voters receive a notification postcard indicating the date of the election and informing them that they may collect their electoral certificate from the competent Municipal Office.

  • Can I vote abroad?

No. Voting abroad is not provided for in non-EU countries.

  • Are travel concessions available?

Yes. Information on travel concessions within Italy is available on the website of the Italian Ministry of the Interior shortly before each election.

 

LOCAL ELECTIONS (Regional, Provincial and Municipal)

  • Where do I vote?

Exclusively in Italy, in the Municipality where the voter is registered.

  • How do I vote?

At the polling station established by the Municipality in whose electoral register the voter is enrolled. Voters receive a notification postcard indicating the date of the election and informing them that they may collect their electoral certificate from the competent Municipal Office.

  • Can I vote abroad?

No. Voting abroad is not provided for.

  • Are travel concessions available?

Yes. Information on travel concessions within Italy is available on the website of the Italian Ministry of the Interior shortly before each election.
